Long-vacant downtown Sandoval building being renovated into a new business

The long-vacant Bill’s Cafe on Main Street in Sandoval is going to be renovated into a hair salon.

The son of the owner of the cafe owner told the village board Tuesday night that after being unsuccessful in selling the building he decided to renovate it into a hair salon for his daughter.

Kelly Jenkins came before the Sandoval Village Board Tuesday night to determine if he needed any permits to proceed with the renovation.   Jenkins was told there would be no requirements since the building is already in a business zone.

He also asked about a salon liquor license to serve champagne and wine to those getting their hair done.  Board members said such a license doesn’t exist now, but felt it was something the board would consider and then make available to all the hair salons in town.

However, Jenkins was told this license would not allow video gaming and that he would need a full liquor license.  The board said none are currently available and at present the board isn’t increasing the number of licenses from the current eight in usage.   Jenkins was encouraged to get on a waiting list and perhaps pursue the salon liquor license in the interim.

In other action, the Sandoval Board approved its annual levy with no increase.

The annual chili-soup supper to benefit the Sandoval Cemetery is set for February 25th from 11 am to 2 pm at village hall.  All proceeds will go towards operation and improvements to the cemetery.
