Marion County Animal Control Officer Ken Ferguson will no longer be able to take dogs picked up in villages and cities to the Centralia Animal Pound.

Representatives of the Marion County Board learned during a recent meeting with Centralia City Manager Kory Smith that the in-town dogs would not be accepted until the small city or village has a contract in place with Centralia.

Community Relations Committee Chair Bill Henson says the county’s contract is specifically to house dogs from unincorporated areas only.
Ferguson says the decision will cause him an issue when he picks up a dog in one of the smaller communities. He started providing the services to some of the smaller communities after their dog catcher passed away.
The Marion County Board plans on mailing a letter to each of the impacted communities.
Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says the county has been given up to $600,000 to pay for the replacement of a bridge on Kline Road that has been barricaded shut for about four years. The replacement project will be on the January Illinois Department of Transportation bid letting.

Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps reported on Tuesday there were 67 prisoners in the Marion County, 21 of which are being held for the federal government.

The board was told there has been no additional odor problem at the Public Service Building since a grinder pump that was broken was replaced.

A $5,600 X-Mark lawn mower has been purchased to mow the courthouse preferences.
