An Apprentice from the Ameren Illinois Centralia Operating Center will be representing the utility this year in the International Lineman’s Rodeo which is billed as the “Lineman’s Olympics”.

Nicholas Wunder will be among the nearly 75 involved in the competition in Overland Park, Kansas on October 13th and 14th.

The event brings together the most talented line workers from utilities all around the globe to compete in events based on the common tasks performed by journeymen line workers and apprentices.

Ameren held a competition earlier in the year to select line workers from Illinois and Missouri.  Ameren is sending 24 linemen, 14 apprentices, and 35 judges/committee members to Kansas.

The Vice President of Electric Operations for Ameren Illinois says the rodeo is all about the line workers competing to the best of their abilities in a safe manner.   He says it also gives family members an up-close look at what it takes to do this type of work on an everyday basis.
