The Centralia City Council will be asked to approve two resolutions at Tuesday night’s meeting to move two projects forward.

The first resolution would approve utilizing Fehr Graham to prepare a Community Development Block Grant application seeking $1.5-million to construct a replacement for a raw water line that has multiple failures. The raw water line replacement project has already been designed and permitted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The city will pay $7,500 for the grant writing services.

The second resolution would approve an agreement with Gonzalez Companies, LLC to perform design engineering and construction engineering services for sidewalk improvements for portions of Sycamore Street, Pine Street, East 5th and East 7th Street. The project was originally set to include roadway and sidewalk improvements, but the bid submitted by a sole bidder earlier this year was approximately $270,000 higher than the engineer’s estimate for the project. The scope has been revised to reduce the cost of the project and to also receive more competitive bids.

The council will be asked to approve an ordinance to participate in an intrastate mutual aid and assistance program for the water and sewage treatment systems for natural and man-made events. There is no cost to join the program. If responding to another community, Centralia would be reimbursed for its costs of personnel and services. If Centralia called in assistance they would then have to pay the costs associated with receiving the help.

The meeting begins at six Tuesday night at Centralia City Hall.
