The first ever Oktoberfest is planned for Fairview Park in Centralia on Saturday.
It is sponsored by 618 Sports Academy and the Crooked Creek Winery to raise funds for further improvements to the Fairview Park baseball fields.
The Co-Owner of the 618 Sports Academy, Adam Feig, says a number of activities are planned.
“A lot of this is going to be free to the community. We’re supposed to have a couple of hot air balloons out there that may do some tethered rides. The winery is going to have its hot dog eating contest and beer stein holding contest We’re going to have a few bands out there. We’re going to have a couple of bands out there. At six o’clock we are going to open the field up. That’s going to be the fundraising event for the baseball field improvements. We’re going to have Twisted Road playing out there from seven to ten o’clock at night, kind of like an amphitheater-type event. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy. It’s going to be family-friendly and fun for everybody.”
Feig says the only charge is for those who want to go inside the baseball field for the Twisted Road concert.
The 618 Sports Academy is now in its third year of operation of the ball field.
“This year coming up we are going to have eight teams play under us which is over 100 kids playing baseball in the community. We are looking at having tournaments out there, probably two or three a month if not more. The last time we had tournaments out there, we filled the local hotel and the restaurants have been packed.”
The event opens at noon on Saturday. Three to four food trucks will be available throughout the day.
