Odin loses power as a result of storm related problems

Ameren Illinois is reporting about 1,000 Odin area customers were left without electricity after a severe storm crossed the community Saturday night.   The remaining 36 customers that were still without power early Sunday morning have now had service restored.  Ameren’s outage map indicates multiple problems led to the outages.

Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says one of them was a transformer fire in the 300 block of Perkins Street.   He reports a nearby tree appears to have been hit by lighting with part of the tree falling into the power line.   However, Smith says they can’t determine if the transformer fire occurred before or after the tree fell.   Another tree fell into the roadway in the 100 block of North Linton.

Firemen were also called to an earlier brush fire in the 3400 block of Odin Road that rekindled as a result of the strong winds.  Smith says no buildings were threatened and the fire was out in about ten minutes.

When power came back on late Saturday night, smoke filled the Rocky Stoval home in the 600 block of South Wood Street.   He reported hearing a loud pop when the power came back on.   Firemen checked all the electrical outlets and appliances and could not find the source of the smoke that had dissipated.
