Salem Mayor Nic Farley has announced a Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for five Tuesday evening to try and match volunteers with those in need of assistance following the Friday night tornado.

The city is asking individuals or groups who wish to volunteer to assist to meet at the Exhibit Building at the Marion County Fairgrounds.    Organizations wanting to assist only need to have a few members present.   Farley says they are also looking for those with equipment, such as end loaders and dump trucks, who want to assist.

The second group the city wants to attend the meeting are those residents impacted by the tornado who need assistance getting their property cleared of debris or be able to return to their homes.

Again, the meeting for volunteers and those who needed help is five Tuesday night at the Marion County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.

There will also be assistance available to those who need assistance in cutting up trees brought down by the tornadoes on Monday.   Those in need are asked to go to the First Baptist Church on West Main and use the east entrance from 8 to 4 to be matched up with Baptist Relief Chain Saw Crew Volunteers for assistance.   The cut-up trees will be left for later disposal.

Farley says there are currently 16 homes with natural gas turned off that need to be pressure tested before service can be restored.  City staff has been in contact with many of those who need the test, but if you have not been contacted by Monday morning, please call Salem City Hall at 548-2222 to secure an appointment.  Farley notes in many cases the gas was turned off in an abundance of caution and may not have any issues.

Farley reports there are also currently eight homes without electricity due to conditions that will not allow Ameren to restore power.

Watch for further updates on storm services.
