A 42-year-old Flora man had bond set at $250,000 during his first Marion County Court appearance Wednesday on a Class X felony charge of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

Stephen Goff, Junior was also charged with a second felony count of unlawful possession of 15 to 100 grams of methamphetamine.

He was taken into custody during a Tuesday night traffic stop in the 400 block of East Main that was part of a drug investigation by the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force.

Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth said during Goff’s first court appearance that earlier in the day the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force had set up a controlled buy between Goff and a confidential source.   Goff allegedly delivered 3.7 grams of meth in the sale.

After the traffic stop, Salem Police joined the Drug Task Force in executing a search warrant on Goff’s room at the Continental Inn at 1600 East Main Street in Salem.  Hudspeth said they found five separate baggies scattered around the room that contained a total of 21 grams of methamphetamine.   They also recovered the $100 bill that Goff reportedly had received when completing the earlier controlled drug buy.

Hudspeth had asked for the $150,000 bond that was granted by Judge Josh Morrison based on the Class X felony as well as Goff’s lengthy criminal history.   He noted Goff had been a graduate of the Marion County Drug Court program.
