The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a possible hit and run crash on I-64 in Washington County that ended in the apparent suicide of the suspect.
State Police say the incident occurred during the noon hour on Sunday near mile post 48 two miles west of the Route 127 exit at Nashville.
Illinois State Troopers, along with Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies and Nashville Police, say after locating the suspect vehicle in the hit and run, he allegedly displayed a firearm.
Troopers and officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect who ultimately turned the weapon on himself. The suspect was provided aid by officers on scene before being transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects name is not currently being released.
The investigation led by Illinois State Police DCI Zone 7 is active and on-going.
