The Marion County Sheriff and Coroner are investigating a possible human bone found at a rural Kell residence.
The sheriff’s department was called to the home Sunday evening and after examining the bone contacted the coroner’s office.
Coroner Troy Cannon says the bone was transported Monday morning to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, where, upon examination by the University of Illinois Forensic Anthropology Department, it was confirmed as human.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Division was summoned to the scene and processed the area in search of other remains and/or evidence. Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says SARS also searched the area with cadaver dogs. The search yielded negative results.
This is an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information on this matter is urged to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, at (618)548-2141
