Enhance SNAP benefits coming to an end across Illinois

By WJBD Staff Jan 18, 2023 | 11:47 AM

The Illinois Department of Human Services says enhanced benefits in the “SNAP” Program are ending next month.

The two-million who receive SNAP, or food stamp recipients have been getting extra benefits during the pandemic, but that changes come the end of February says DHS Secretary Grace Hou.

“That means in March they won’t be getting that 2nd payment that they’ve been getting over the course of these many months during Covid-19 emergency.  So we know this will serve as a hardship for many of the families and individuals that SNAP benefits in Illinois.  So we wanted to make sure we were communicating this change as soon as possible.”

DHS says the reduction will be between $95 to $250 per person, per month.  You can learn more online at: abe.illinois.gov.
