Marion County jumps from low to high community transmission of COVID-19

Marion County has jumped from low to high level of community transmission of COVID-19 for the week ending on Thursday.

The CDC COVID-19 tracker says the county’s total number of COVID-positive and probable cases increased 115 percent to 88 during the past week.   There were eight new hospitalizations.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reports no new deaths in the county during the past week.  There are now six congregate care facilities on outbreak status.  One facility has 58 positive cases, another 46, and a third 23.  The other facilities has two, three, and eight positive cases.

Washington County has also moved to a high transmission level.  While new cases are down 13 percent to 13 cases, there were three new hospitalizations.

Clinton and Jefferson County are at the medium transmission level.  Clinton County reported a 47-percent increase in cases the past week to 69 with five new hospitalizations.   Jefferson County had a 215-percent increase in cases to 81 with three new hospitalizations.

Fayette, Clay, and Wayne Counties are at the low level for community transmission.  Fayette County had a 197-percent increase in cases to 42 with two new hospitalizations.   Clay County had a 137-percent increase in cases to 18, with one new hospitalization.   Wayne County had a 185-percent increase in cases with two new hospitalizations.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health, 16,281 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 were reported in the past week, including 20 deaths.   73 of the state’s 102 counties are at an elevated level of COVID-19 compared to 65 the previous week.  28 of the counties are at a high community level and 45 at the medium level.

As of Thursday night, 1,766 Illinois residents were reported in the hospital as a result of COVID-19.  233 were in the ICU and 77 were on ventilators.
