Downtown Christmas Stroll set for early Friday night in Centralia

Carriage rides at last year's Centralia Downtown Christmas Stroll will be back this year.

The traditional downtown Centralia Christmas Stroll set for early Friday night has been expanded to include new activities.

It’s the first year the Centralia Chamber of Commerce has coordinated the effort.   Executive Director Marcus Holland says activities get underway at three.

“The main point is to get people to see the downtown.  There are 29 businesses that will have hidden ornaments.  They are actually hiding a Grinch you need to find in each of these businesses.  You check off this list and you can win a prize if you do the Christmas Ornament Hunt.  And the secondary part of that is the shopping and there are restaurants open with drink specials. We will have entertainment at three different locations…at the Winery, downtown in the intersection of Locust and Broadway and over at Carillon Park.”

Holland says more organizations have joined in the effort this year providing additional activities.

“We’ve had more people getting involved and offering more activities for families.  We have Schnucks coming downtown to give out egg nog and cookies, the City Hope Church is doing hot chocolate and S’mores.  So we have a lot of other things going on too.”

The Tree Lighting Ceremony at Carillon Park is set for 4:45 Friday afternoon.  A variety of groups will be providing entertainment at the three entertainment locations including those from Centralia High School, Kaskaskia College, and the Centralia Cultural Society.

The stroll activity winds up at seven Friday night.
