Short-Handed Cats Fall At Newton
The Salem Wildcats had several players home with the flu as they traveled to Newton and fell to the Eagles 65-49. Newton used an 8-0 run in the final 60 seconds of the opening half to take a 35-27 lead at the halftime break and would outscore Salem 24-12 in the 3rd to pull away. Seth Bailey led Salem with 20, Connor Tennyson finished with 12. Parker Wolfe had 24 to lead Newton with 16 from Dylan Grier and 13 from Caden Nichols. Salem won the JV game 24-18. The Cats return to action Friday for their home and conference opener against Breese Central.
Dodson’s 31 Points Leads SC Over Ramsey
The SC Cougars are 2-0 after their 67-52 road win at Ramsey. Aidan Dodson had 31 points for SC, Anthony Buonaura added 18 and Ethan Watwood 9.
Also in basketball action last night, Altamont beat Cumberland 52-43, Althoff over Madison 65-58, Christ Our Rock opened up their home schedule with a win over Wayne City 61-36, North Clay knocked off visiting St Anthony 53-49, Wesclin over Waterloo 60-35, Columbia fell to Triad 54-39.
Tournament Action Continues Tonight At Kaskaskian As well As Other Locations
Tonight at the Kaskaskian, Pinckneyville plays Flora followed by Greenville and Hillsboro. Last night, Flora beat Okawville 38-29 and Hillsboro over Woodlawn 57-45.
At DuQuoin, Cairo plays Carmi followed by the hosts and West Frankfort.
At Goreville last night, Johnston City beat Hamilton County 45-41, Goreville over Hardin County 69-50 and Benton beat Anna 64-57.
Wednesday at Murphysboro it’s Chester and Harrisburg followed by the host Red Devils and Lovejoy. At Trico it’s Red Bud and Steeleville followed by Trico and Carterville.
