Cougars Big 4th Quarter Lift Them To Season Opening Win Over Flora

The South Central Cougars opened up their season with an exciting home victory over Flora 54-44.  The Cougars trailed 37-33 after three quarters but opened up the 4th on a 12-0 run to extend their own lead to double figures and would earn the win.  Aidan Dodson had 19 to lead SC, Anthony Buonaura added 14 and Ethan Watwood hit three three-pointers for his 9.


Orphans Into Championship Semifinal At Roxana After Blowout Of Shells

The Centralia Orphans punched their ticket to the Roxana Hoopsgiving Tournament Gold Bracket semifinals after winning their 2nd straight game to start the tournament, beating the host Shells 55-19.  Wood River over Southwestern 59-45, Freeburg beat Maryville Christian 70-37 and Marquette over North Greene 73-19.

At Roxana tonight, Centralia is off.  In the Main Gym, Marquette takes on Jerseyville and Roxana plays Civic Memorial.  In the Jr High Gym, Carbondale plays Freeburg and Gateway Legacy against Wood River.

At Christopher tonight it’s consolation semifinals with NCOE taking on Thompsonville followed by a championship semifinal with Waltonville and Christopher.  Last night in opening round action, Wayne City beat New Athens 52-50 and Webber over Zeigler Royalton 72-36.


Fridley Goes Over 1000 In Wesclin Win

At the Wesclin/Mascoutah Tournament last night, Marion over Riverview Gardens 49-24, Collinsville beat Mascoutah 54-41, Columbia beat Nashville 56-37 and Wesclin was 90-33 winners over SIUE Charter.  In the win, Wesclin guard Grant Fridley became just the 15thplayer at Wesclin to go over 1000 points.

At Cumberland last night, the hosts advanced 66-30 over Marshall and 6th seed North Clay upset 3rd seed Newton 63-62.

At St Anthony, Highland and Mattoon start at 5 followed by Robinson and Effingham and then St Anthony and Breese Central.  Last night Rantoul beat Mattoon 51-50, Breese Central routed Effingham 58-32 and TTown over Highland 48-36.

At Eldorado last night Agape Christian beat Egyptian 73-49 and Elverado lost to Crab Orchard 66-42.

At Elverado tonight, Cobden and Galatia will play in a consolation semifinal.


Patoka/Odin Drops Opener,  Back At It Tonight

At Mulberry Grove, St Elmo plays Lebanon at 5:15, Patoka/Odin and CHBC at 6:45 followed by Mount Olive and Mulberry Grove.  Last night, Lebanon beat Mount Olive 46-32, Father McGivney got past Patoka/Odin 59-55 and Ramsey over CHBC 64-55.

At Vienna, Massac County takes on Mounds Meridian and then Eldorado plays Vienna.  Last night, Mounds beat Carrier Mills 83-41 and Massac County over Eldorado 69-41.
