The State Volleyball Final Fours opened up yesterday at Redbird Arena in Normal. In the 1a semifinals, Freeport Aquin beat Newman Central Catholic 25-13, 25-16. Springfield Lutheran then beat NCOE 28-26, 25-15.
In 2a state semifinals, Genoa Kingston beat Illinois Valley Central 25-23, 25-15 and Freeburg won their opening set against Elmhurst IC Catholic 25-17, but fell 22-25, 18-25 in the final two.
In 3a, Wheaton St Francis beat Joliet Catholic 25-17, 25-22 and Nazareth Academy over Taylorville 25-19, 25-13.
And in 4a, Lisle Benet Academy beat Barrington 25-21, 25-16 and Mother McAuley over St Charles East 25-27, 25-17, 25-20.
The trophy day starts with the 1a 3rd place game of Newman Central and NCOE at 9am followed by Aquin and Springfield Lutheran for the 1a State Title.
At 12:25 it’s the 2a 3rd place game with Illinois Valley Central and Freeburg followed at 1:55 by Genoa Kingston and IC Catholic for the 2a state title.
At 4pm the 3a 3rd place game will feature Taylorville and Joliet Catholic followed by the state championship at 5:30 with Wheaton St Francis and Nazareth Academy.
In 4a, Barrington and St Charles East play at 7:25 for 3rd place and then the state finals between Lisle Benet and Mother McAuley at 8:55.
