Week 1 of the high school playoff are in the books. The Centralia Orphans advanced in the 5a playoffs after their upset win at Triad 27-14. They advance to Week 2 of the post season where they will host Morris.
Mt Vernon got beat in a close game at Kankakee 16-14, Mascoutah beat Marion 21-20. This week Highland will host Mascoutah and Mahomet Seymour welcomes Metamora.
In Class 1a, Red Hill lost to Salt Fork 48-31, Dupo fell to Camp Point Central 66-0 and Sesser beat Central A&M 49-12. This week Sesser will travel to Camp Point.
In 2a Carmi lost to Athens 48-8, Chester lost to St Teresa 49-0, Johnston City of Flora 36-20, Red Bud beat Nashville 34-21, Althoff got past Shelbyville 38-34 and Fairfield upset Virden North Mac 20-19 while Vandalia lost to Arthur 41-34. This week Arthur hosts Johnston City, Althoff welcomes Red Bud and Pana is at Fairfield.
In 3a, Benton lost to Stanford Olympia 32-21, Roxana over Hillsboro on the road 13-7, Mt Carmel in a defensive battle over Monticello 8-6, Robinson lost to St Joseph Ogden 55-39 and Harrisburg was shutout by Tolono Unity 21-0. This week Roxana will host Fairbury Prairie Central and Mt Carmel goes to Tolono Unity.
In 4a, Breese Central beat Mt Zion 21-18, Carterville over Geneseo 36-7, Wood River lost to Coal City 22-6, Waterloo outscored Olney 76-28 and Rochester beat Effingham 45-14. This week Carterville hosts Coal City, Murphysboro goes to Macomb, Breese Central is at Rochester and Waterloo hosts Sacred Heart Griffin.
In 6a, East St Louis dominated Oak Lawn Richards 71-0. They will play at Normal West this weekend.
In 7a this weekend, Collinsville will play at Chicago Brother Rice. In 8a, Edwardsville beat O’Fallon on the road 43-36 and will play Loyola Academy this weekend.
