The Illinois Manufacturers ‘Makers on the Move’ Bus Tour makes a stop in Salem at 2:30 Thursday afternoon.

The stop will be in the parking lot of North American Lighting at 1875 West Main Street.

The Manufacturer Association’s Vice President of Education and Work Force Building Sarah Hartwick says the bus is making stop at 20 locations around the state to raise awareness about the exciting job opportunities and career pathways available in manufacturing.

“Average wage for manufacturing jobs all across Marion County is over $60,000 a year.  In Marion County, the total economic output for manufacturing is $1.5 billion annually.  So this is a really strong sector in the County and is the backbone of your community.  Getting more people to see what manufacturing is today will be a key factor in addressing the worker shortage.”

The 56-foot bus will be accompanied by industry advocates, educators, economic development organizations, public officials, and other dignitaries including State Representative Blaine Wilhour.

The public is invited to come out to the Salem stop.   Again it is at 2:30 Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of NAL.
