The Salem Wildcats soccer team earned their first win of the season and the first in his career for new coach Steve Baker as they knocked off Greenville 2-1 at the St Anthony/Teutopolis Tournament.
The Cats got the first goal of the game with 11 seconds left in the first half on a nifty move in open space by Eli Baker. After Greenville tied the game early in the 2nd half, the two teams played even until 4 minutes left to play when sophomore Keaton Gullion found Baker on a through ball and the freshman buried it to give Salem the victory.
They will return to tournament play on Saturday when they play St Anthony in Effingham at 10:30 and then play Altamont back in TTown at 1:30.
In other prep action, Staunton shutout Carlyle 4-0, Waterloo nipped Mater Dei 2-1.
