Kell Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld (left) accepts a free pumper-tanker truck from Salem Fire Chief Dave Duncan that was recently taken out of service by the Salem Fire Department.

The Salem Fire Protection Board of Trustees has completed the transfer of the ownership of Engine/Tanker 9527 to the Kell Fire Protection District.

Salem recently took delivery of a new pumper tank to replace the 35-year-old engine.   The trustees note rather than having the resource leaving the region, it will be put to good use by the firefighters of the Kell Fire Protection District and be available for other nearby fire agencies on mutual aid.

Kell Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld is thankful for the donation.

“Set us up tremendously in terms of helping us carry water to any type of structure fire.  It has more water on it than anyone of our trucks we have in line right now.”

McDaneld is hopeful of taking delivery of their new pumper-tanker currently being built by Rosenbauer in South Dakota and Wisconsin around September first.   That truck will also have a 2,000 gallon capacity.   McDaneld says construction has been underway for more than a year since Kell Fire Protection District voters approved a bond issue to pay for the truck.

Between the two trucks, McDaneld says they will be in real good shape.
