The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive in Salem soared over its goal with the Salem Fire Protection District and United Medical Response winning the challenge.
A total of 70 people turned out to give blood, with 68 productive units collected.
Red Cross Donor Recruitment Specialist Zachary Elmore says the drive easily topped the 40 unit goal.
“It was a really good turnout for the first two hours we had really steady donors. We actually had to bring an extra bed in to accommodate the donor flow we had so we really appreciate the community involvement and backing the first responders.”
The Salem Fire and United Medical Response team finished w2ith 36 units of blood and the Salem Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Department had 32 united collected on their behalf. Individually, the fire department collected the largest number of donors at 23. Salem Police were second with 20 units, followed by United Medical Response with 13 units and the sheriff’s department 12.
The next community blood drive in Salem will be October 19th.
