Lake Centralia will once again be treated with Algaecide on Thursday.
City Manager Kory Smith says with continued warm air and water temperatures, the city will once again be applying a commercial algaecide known as EarthTec at Lake Centralia to prevent the growth of Nuisance algal and blue-green algae blooms.
The product is registered with the USEPA as an approved algaecide and bactericide. The liquid product will be spray-applied to the water surface. The application rate is intended to yield approximately 0.1 parts per million Copper ions into the top two feet of the water column to inhibit growth. The dosage is far below the maximum copper dosage for this purpose. The Copper dosage is not considered to be harmful to humans or fish.
