A 36-year-old Kinmundy woman was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly trying to avoid a traffic stop by Salem Police and then fleeing towards Iuka.

Salem Police say Vanessa Wilkins initially refused to stop for a traffic stop on U.S. 50 at Lakewood Drive.  After accelerating to a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood, Wilkins allegedly returned to U.S. 50 and began fleeing eastbound towards Iuka.  Her car apparently developed mechanical problems and began slowing.  It was only traveling at about 20 miles per hour at the time Wilkins stopped in the Dollar General Parking lot in Iuka.

Police report Wilkins was taken into custody without incident by a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy who had joined the chase.  She was taken to the Marion County Jail for alleged aggravated and fleeing police, aggravated driving on a revoked license and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.  Wilkins reportedly had a switch blade in her possession.

The chase began at 2:51 Monday morning.
