The Patoka Mohawks are regional champions.
Playing at the Salem Little League Complex Monday night, Patoka got a dominant pitching performance from Noah Cain and blanked the Selmaville Rockets 3-0 to capture the SIJHSAA Class S Regional Championship.
Cain was in control from the start, striking out 12 batters while allowing just two hits and no runs over seven innings. He did walk four, but Selmaville was unable to produce the big hit against the Patoka right-hander.
The Mohawks gave Cain all the offense he would need in the first two innings.
Patoka scored twice in the bottom of the first. Brody Spicer delivered an RBI single to center field, while Grant Eddy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another run.
The Mohawks added their third run in the second inning when Selmaville committed an error.
Patoka finished with just five hits, but made the most of its opportunities. John Garrett led the Mohawks with two hits in three at-bats, while Spicer and Eddy each drove in a run. Carter Thompson added two stolen bases.
The Mohawks also played error-free baseball, with Nolan Eddy recording a team-high 12 defensive chances.
Selmaville starter Jacob Butts pitched two innings, allowing three hits and three runs, although only one was earned. He struck out five and walked one.
Butts and Reed Knapp each collected a hit for the Rockets, who were held scoreless throughout the championship game.
With the regional title secured, Patoka now advances to the SIJHSAA Class S State Tournament. The Mohawks will open state tournament play Saturday at 3 p.m. against Jonesboro.
