A mobile home just west of Woodlawn on Mozart Road was heavily damaged by fire during the noon hour Sunday.

Woodlawn Assistant Fire Chief Roger Hayse says smoke and fire was pouring from the rear of the home on their arrival.   There were two cars in the driveway, so there was concern about people being inside.

The fire department immediately did a search from both ends of the mobile home and then a third search to confirm no one was there.

The home was owned and occupied by Gavin Madesitt and his family.

Hayse says the department got a good stop, with both an interior attack through the front door and from the back of the home.  The back wall collapsed and the entire home had heavy smoke damage.  However, the mobile home remains standing.

The state fire marshal’s office has ruled the fire undetermined in cause, but pinpointed the start to near a grill outside the rear of the home that had been used that morning.

Woodlawn received mutual aid from Jefferson County, Centralia Fire Protection District, Waltonville, and Mt. Vernon Firemen on the scene.  Wayne City and Kell stood by at the Woodlawn Fire Station in the event of another fire.

Firemen were on the scene for about two hours, beginning at 12:40 Sunday afternoon.
