In a short meeting to start the new year, the Salem City Council approved a request by the SAFE organization to hold an event titled “Color, Courage, Change” in Bryan Memorial Park on Saturday, April 18. The event will be held in April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. While not all of the details of the event are finalized, it is planned to feature a fun run, food vendors, community partner booths, and a guest speaker. Advocate LaDonna Koeberlein of SAFE said Bryan Memorial Park was chosen to host the event because of Salem’s central location within Marion County and surrounding counties that are served by SAFE. She said the organization hopes to make this an annual event.
The next Salem City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 20 at 6:15 p.m. It is scheduled for Tuesday rather than Monday due to the holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and scheduled for 6:15 to avoid conflicting with a zoning board of appeals meeting at 6:00.
