A 20-year-old Centralia man has been formally charged in Marion County Court with burglary, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and criminal damage to property in connection with an early Saturday morning burglary at the Blue Goose Liquor Store in Wamac.
Stewart Stumbaugh of South Brookside was allegedly seen running from the building when Centralia Police arrived to investigate a burglar alarm. Stumbaugh was arrested following a brief foot chase.
Stumbaugh is accused breaking out a window with a large rock to gain entry and reportedly caused between $500 and $10,000 damage to the building and cash register.
Due to a prior felony conviction in Marion County, Stumbaugh faces an extended sentence on the resisting and criminal damage charges.
Stumbaugh is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Tuesday, due to illness on Monday.
