The Centralia Police Department has announced they will be working with TASC, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, to try and provide services to the homeless in the community.
The TASC Deflection Team knows the services available in the community and are able to connect those in need to services including substance abuse and mental health treatment, recovery resources, housing services and supports, as well as food pantries, clothing, employment opportunities, and other supportive services.
Centralia Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marcus Holland has been asking for the city to help address the issues caused by what appears to be a growing population of homeless in the Centralia area. He thanks the police department for hearing the concerns of businesses and citizens. Holland says this means if you see someone who needs assistance with housing, mental health, or other supportive services, you can contact the Centralia Police Department non-emergency number 618-533-7602. Police will then get in contact with the individual and report to TASC. You can also report directly if you know the homeless persons’ name or have already worked with the person-in-need through your business or organization by contacting TASC and the Centralia Police Department.
The program is being coordinated at the Centralia Police Department by Detective Mickey Jader.
