A teacher for more than 25 years at Franklin Park Middle School in Salem has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kaskaskia Division of the Illinois Principal’s Association.

Joni Dorff was nominated by Franklin Park Principal Tyler Lux.  He says Dorff has dedicated herself to inspiring curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and nurturing a love of science in countless students.  Through innovative, hands-on lessons and an unwavering commitment to student success, she has made science come alive both inside and outside the classroom.  Many former students credit her with sparking their pursuit of higher education and careers in STEM.

Lux says beyond the classroom, Dorff has served as a mentor to new teachers, contributed to district-wide curriculum development and supported extracurricular science activities.  In addition, Dorff has served as Beta Club sponsor, 7th grade team leader and Salem Elementary Teachers Association President.   Lux also noted Dorff has also organized an annual Red Cross Blood Drive while teaching about the circulatory system.  He says her adaptability through decades of educational change, combined with her compassion and high standards, exemplifies true professionalism.

Lux says Dorff leaves a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and inspiration who has shaped the lives of generations of students and elevated the culture of teaching in the Salem Grade School District, making her most deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
