On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the South Central High School Cougars hosted the Woodlawn High School Cardinals and joined together to help combat an illness that has or will probably affect someone we know. Alzheimer’s disease is the 6 th leading cause of death in the United States. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Alzheimer’s is the only disease with no cure, no treatments to stop, delay or prevent the disease, and no survivors. But this will change. The first survivor is out there.

During the basketball game at South Central High School, the two schools competed against each other but also in helping to find that survivor. There were many activities throughout the evening to help raise funds to be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. Shirts were sold leading up to the game as well as that night. Also, at the game, a silent auction, bake sale, 50/50 raffle, half-court shot, and pizza sales were held.

This event was sponsored by the South Central High School Future Business Leaders of America and their adviser, Mrs. Lynn Riehm. After the game, a donation in the amount of $5,600 was given to the Alzheimer’s Association! This donation puts South Central High School in the top five for fundraising efforts in the Nation through the FBLA organization! This money will go to helping find that first survivor by funding research to find a cure, provide support to all affected, and promote brain health. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way! This event was the 7 th annual purple game for the organization. Throughout those years, there has been a total of over $17,000 raised by the South Central High School and the community!
