August “Augie” Eugene Pawlisa, 85, passed away Monday, February 2nd, 2026, surrounded by those who he loved and who loved him.
Augie was born July 07, 1940, in Centralia, IL, to August Pawlisa and Pauline Amidei. Augie started dating Carolyn “Carol” Woods in 1970 and soon after married the love of his life on October 22, 1971. Augie proudly served two years in the US Army and as a deacon at Central City Baptist Church since 1986. After 40 years of hard work, Augie retired from Illinois Power and spent 55 wonderful years alongside the twinkle in his eye, Carol. Augie’s hobbies were fishing and family, who all adored him as their Pop.
Augie is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Pawlisa of Centralia, and his daughter, Ginger Hayes and husband John Hayes of Centralia. He is also survived by his grandson: Justin Tellefsen, wife Corrie Tellefsen, and his great-grandchildren Whitley and Jace Tellefsen of Centralia; His grandson: Josh Tellefsen and his great-grandchildren Harlow and Meadow Tellefsen of Centralia; His granddaughter: Ashton Guehne and her husband Alan Guehne of Belleville, IL. Also surviving are his siblings: Joan Hoffman and Tom Pawlisa of Centralia and Gayle Ziegler of Champaign, IL.
Augie was preceded in death by his siblings Dick Pawlisa, Jim Pawlisa, and Mike Pawlisa, all of Centralia.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Central City Baptist Church in Centralia. A service will follow at the church at 12:00 pm. Following the service, Augie will be laid to rest at Mount Evergreen in Central City, Illinois.
