The Salem Lady Cats fell in a heartbreaker at Vandalia in the 3rd place game of the Mid-Winter Tournament to Wesclin 42-39. The game was tied when Wesclin hit a corner three with 3.5 seconds left securing the victory. Marah Johnson had 12 and Jordan Kessler, who was named to the All Tournament Team, finished with 9. Salem was just 4-11 from the free throw line and saw too many easy looks rim out. Salem returns to action Monday with a makeup game at Olney.
Top seed Effingham won the title beating Hillsboro 52-40. Vandalia took the 5th place game over Mattoon 42-36. In the win, Ollie Whitehead had another great game with 19 points and 9 rebounds. She was the leading scorer in the tournament. Madison Lupton added 12 points.
