The United Way of South Central Illinois has allocated the federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding to organizations in Marion and Jefferson Counties.
Executive Director Natalie Shook says the funding will play a vital role in addressing the urgent needs of the community and in providing essential services and support to those facing financial hardships.
Marion County received $17,779 in funding that has been split between the United Way, the social service agency BCMW, Sandoval Shalom, Wamac Mission of Hope, the CCBA Food Pantry in Centralia, SWAN and the Salem Community Activity Center.
Jefferson County has received $16,807. It will be split between the Lifeboat Alliance, United Way, Family Life, Angels on Assignment, Harlow Food Pantry, Hope’s Entourage, and SWAN.
The organizations will use the funding to provide critical assistance to individuals and families in need, including food distribution, shelter expenses, rental assistance and utility payments.
The federal program is a federally funded initiative that provides emergency assistance to individuals and families facing homelessness or food insecurity. The program is administered by local United Way Organizations.
