A 26-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to six years in prison in Marion County Court after pleading guilty to three of the multiple charges pending against him in a later December crime spree that allegedly involved the theft of four vehicles and other related crimes.

Edward Kinney received the six year sentence for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle on December 19th.  Two-year concurrent prison terms were handed down on a December 23rd burglary to a vehicle in the 500 block of South Washington Street and for possession of a lost or mislaid credit or debit card taken from one of the vehicles.  Another burglary charge, another possession of a stolen vehicle charge, two counts of thefts of vehicles, and possession of methamphetamine were dropped.  Unrelated misdemeanor charges of battery, retail theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia were also dismissed.

In addition to the prison time, Kinney was also ordered to complete one year of mandatory release.  He was given credit for 160 days served in the Marion County Jail awaiting a conclusion to all the pending cases.

Kinney still faces multiple charges in Clinton County Court following a chase in one of the stolen vehicles that reached more than 100 miles per hour from Centralia along Route 161 to Germantown where stop sticks stopped the vehicle before he left the road and crossed the railroad tracks before fleeing on foot.  A trial is currently set in those cases for September 16th.
