The Eldorado School Board will not bring back coaches Rod Wallace, Tyler Scott, Ben Mitchell and Aaron Hall who took over the Eagles boys basketball program after the head coach and his assistants were fired after an elbowing incident in a game against Hamilton County.  According to Coach Wallace’s Facebook post, the decision was made by the athletic director to nominate another candidate and was supported by a 5-1 vote by the Board.  The only no vote was cast by the school board president and another member abstained.

The following is the complete post from Sarah Scott, daughter of Coach Wallace on Facebook.

“Coach Rod Wallace, coach Tyler Scott, coach Ben Mitchell, and coach Aaron Hall would like thank all of these terrific young men for being a first class group of young men to coach.

This post is to let everyone know that this coaching staff was not asked to return to the sidelines for the 2024/2025 basketball season. For some unknown reason, this decision has not received a formal announcement so we decided to do this to keep the public informed.
The decision was made by the athletic director to nominate another candidate and was supported by a 5-1 vote by the Eldorado school board. The only no vote was cast by the school board president and one school board member abstained.
This was not the coaching staff’s choice as we were committed, from the beginning, to effect long term cultural change and stay as long as needed to insure these changes were instilled in this team’s culture. And hopefully have a recruit on the sidelines who was ready to assume the head coaching responsibilities when we stepped down to insure a smooth transition.
To insure this coaching staff was working in the best interest of the team, the team was required to take a vote, in the locker room with no coaches present, as to whether the team wanted us to return as their coaches for the 2024/25 season. The captains then reported to us, representing the team, they wanted to retain us for the next year. This is the only way for any coaching staff to truly know where our players’ hearts are and if they have confidence in us to lead them.
To this team, the unit superintendent, the high school principal, the parents, and all who helped and supported us through this season, please accept our most heart felt THANK YOU! This was not an easy task for us or the young men who stuck it out.
These young men performed flawlessly. Their character, sportsmanship, and integrity was on full display each and every game they played for all to see.
At the end of the day, I was given a unique opportunity to observe these young men up close and personal. What I took away from these young men is that they are typical young men who need our time, support, discipline, and most of all our love.
For anyone out there wondering about the character of Eldorado basketball, and I would assume this extends to all the kids in the Eldorado school district, they are just kids doing the best they can. Unfortunately, often time kids get exposed to people who truly don’t have their best interests at heart. Winning at all cost has no place in sports, nor does it have any place in life. That attitude is unacceptable to me and should be unacceptable to everyone.
To all the players who stuck it out and finished this year, this speaks volumes about your character. Your character and your reputation will stay with you throughout your entire life. Make sure both of them remain intact and that your intentions throughout your life are Godly with an eye toward helping everyone you can and humanity as a whole. This coaching staff loves each and everyone of you and we pray that your time with us will be remembered as prosperous for you in life as well as the game of basketball. In the words of the late, great Bob Hope, “THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES”.
*Sharing for my dad, Rod Wallace, as his FB is no longer active.*”
