MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Freshman Cam Christie recorded 19 points on 5-for-7 shooting from 3-point range and Dawson Garcia scored 10 points and Minnesota beat Michigan State for the first time since 2021 sinking the Spartans 59-56. Garcia’s 3-pointer with 1:27 ended a tie at 52 and Minnesota led the remainder. After the two teams traded possessions and missed baskets, Elijah Hawkins fouled Michigan State’s A.J. Hoggard on a 3 attempt with 20 seconds left. Hoggard made the first two, missed the third, and forced to foul, Michigan State’s Carson Cooper wrapped up Christie who made two free throws for a 57-54 advantage. Hoggard missed a two-point shot attempt with 10 seconds left and Hawkins made two foul shots to seal it. Tyson Walker led Michigan State with 20 points.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Malik Reneau and Trey Galloway combined for 51 points, Anthony Leal scored the last five points and Indiana rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Ohio State 76-73. Jamison Battle made a pair of free throws to give Ohio State its last lead, 73-71, with 37 seconds left. Leal answered with a corner 3 with 22.4 seconds remaining. Battle turned the ball over on the next possession and Leal sealed it at the free-throw line. Reneau scored 26 points to go with a career-high 14 rebounds for Indiana (14-9, 6-6 Big Ten). Galloway scored 25 points.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Caitlin Clark was in sixth grade when Iowa associate head coach and chief recruiter Jan Jensen first saw her play basketball. Jensen said Clark was shooting her signature deep 3-pointers even then and in a matter of minutes she knew she wanted Clark to play her college ball for the Hawkeyes. Clark is now on the cusp of becoming Division I women’s basketball’s all-time leading scorer. An early sign of how her career would evolve happened when she was a high school junior. In a game against Mason City she scored 60 points and made 13 3-pointers on 17 attempts.

UNDATED (AP) — A judge has kept in place NCAA rules prohibiting name, image and likeness compensation being used as a recruiting inducement, denying a request for a temporary restraining order by the states of Tennessee and Virginia. The attorneys general of those states filed a federal antitrust lawsuit in the Eastern District of Tennessee last week that challenged the NCAA’s NIL rules, after it was revealed the University of Tennessee was under investigation by the association for potential infractions. The states argued that immediate action was needed to keep the NCAA from standing in the way of recruits monetizing their fame.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A resumé illustrating a wide range of experiences is what led coach Kirk Ferentz to hiring Tim Lester as Iowa’s new offensive coordinator. Now Lester’s task is to remodel one of the worst offenses in the country the last two seasons. Ferentz called Lester a good fit who brings a new perspective. Lester replaces Brian Ferentz, Kirk’s son, who was informed during the Hawkeyes’ off week last October that he would be out of a job at the end of the season. Lester said he will install a system that is disciplined and aggressive.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Mawot Mag scored 15 points, Jeremiah Williams added 14 points in his second game with Rutgers, and the Scarlet Knights held off Maryland 56-53. Derek Simpson put Rutgers ahead 52-43 with 2:56 remaining, but he was called for a technical foul and Maryland scored the next eight points to get within 52-51 after two free throws by Jahmir Young. Simpson dribbled down the clock and was surrounded at the 3-point line before handing it off to Williams with about four seconds left on the shot clock. Williams drove into the lane and made a contested layup with 34.2 seconds left for a 54-51 lead. Maryland answered with a quick layup but Mag made two free throws with 17.9 left to regain a three-point lead.

UNDATED (AP) — South Carolina will play this week as a ranked team for the first time since February 2017. The 15th-ranked Gamecocks made their debut in Monday’s new poll. They’re part of the national AP Top 25 schedule with home games against Mississippi and Vanderbilt. The schedule includes a key rivalry matchup in the Southeastern Conference between No. 12 Auburn and No. 16 Alabama. In the Big 12, No. 13 Baylor has matchups with No. 4 Kansas and No. 23 Texas Tech. Teams to watch outside of the poll include Saint Mary’s and Indiana State.

UNDATED (AP) — All eyes will be on Caitlin Clark this week as she try to break the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record. Iowa’s star guard needs 66 points to break the record of 3,527 held by Kelsey Plum. The No. 2 Hawkeyes play at home on Thursday against Penn State before visiting Nebraska on Sunday. Clark is averaging 32.4 points per game this season but has surpassed that in her last five games, putting up more than 37 a contest.
