The Centralia Police Department has named its officer of the year and its first ever civilian employee of the year.

Chief Christopher Locke handed out the awards at the department’s 19th annual Christmas Party.

The officer of the year is Nolan Beggs who joined the department in January 2022. Locke noted Beggs was in the top tier of officers for arrests, vehicle stops and answering calls. The chief commended Beggs for doing thorough reports, being self-driven, motivated and having an infectious attitude. Beggs was also recognized for always pitching in to help others. In his short tenure, Locke says Beggs is already a leader among his peers.

The first ever Civilian Officer of the Year is telecommunicator Derek Moss who joined the Centralia Police Department in April 2022. Locke says Moss was in a class of his own, getting resources on the way before they are even requested, and is well known for working well under pressure.

About 50 current members of the department as well as retirees attended the annual party and awards ceremony.
