The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating three Saturday crashes with apparent minor injuries.
A 63-year-old Centralia woman was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries after her car attempted to make a left turn from Walnut Hill Road to Perrine Street southeast of Centralia and cut the corner too short. Debi Lampp of Holly Street ended up in the roadside ditch.
The Centralia Fire Protection District and Lifestar Ambulance both assisted on the scene. The crash was reported at 11:18 Saturday night. The glare from the rain on the pavement is believed to have contributed to the wreck.
The sheriff’s department was also called out at 6:29 Saturday morning to a report of a car running off US 51 near the rest area north of Sandoval after hitting a deer on the roadway. 26-year-old Darrion Combs of North 16th in Mt. Vernon was out of the vehicle upon arrival by Sandoval Fire and Ambulance. He sustained a foot injury. Initial reports do not indicate if he was transported to the hospital.
The third crash occurred on Route 37 north of the Route 161 Extension when a van ran off the road. The driver, 68-year-old John High of East Rush in Bluford, was treated on the scene by United Medical Response. The crash was reported at 7:27 Saturday morning.
The sheriff’s department Sunday morning was still looking for the driver of a car that was found wrecked in the front yard of a home in the 2600 block of Watson Lane southwest of Salem. It had rear end damage from possibly hitting a mailbox. The driver is not believed to have been injured. The crash was reported at 4:11 am by the homeowner.
