A 35-year-old Salem man was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment of a hand injury where one finger was severed and another sustained some damage.
What led up to Brant Renfrow of Lovell Street losing his finger is under investigation by the Illinois Department of Conservation Police.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the incident occurred on Metcalf Road near Wilkins Road in rural Iuka around 8:30 Tuesday night. Renfrow had gone to the Continental Motel on East Main Street where he was met by United Medical Response and Sheriff’s Deputies. After initially being taken to Salem Township Hospital, he was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital.
Cripps along with deputies and members of the Iuka Fire Department searched for Renfrow’s missing finger along Metcalf Road where blood was found from where the injury is believed to have occurred. The missing finger was not found.
Renfrow’s car was impounded at the law enforcement center until Conservation Police could seek a search warrant.
