The South Central School Board has a new member.

The board swore in Erin Engel of rural Kinmundy this week to fill the seat left by the death of long time board member Dena Hoffmann.

Engel has three children in the South Central School District, two in high school and one at the middle school, and farms with her husband in Meachum Township. Engel will serve until April 2025 when the next school board election will be held.

Superintendent Kerry Herdes reported that work is nearing completion on the renovation project at South Central Middle School.  With the exception of the windows at the front of the gym which are expected to arrive in early November, the rest of the project should be completed by the end of October.

In other action, the South Central School Board accepted the resignation of Shane Lother as lunchroom monitor, approved a leave of absence for Bre Thomason, and approved London Hails as a volunteer assistant for high school basketball and Jordan Geiler to assist with high school cheerleading.
