A large part of South-Central Illinois has moved back into abnormally dry conditions.
The Illinois Drought Map issued Thursday shows Salem and most of the northern two-thirds of Marion County still with adequate moisture along with parts of southern Fayette, southwestern and southeastern Clay Counties, and northwest Wayne County. All of Clinton, Washington, and Jefferson Counties are now in the abnormally dry category along with the remaining portions of Marion, Fayette, Clay, and Wayne Counties. In all 38 percent of Marion County is listed as abnormally dry.
Statewide, 50 percent of the state is abnormally dry, 20 percent is in moderate drought and 1 percent is in severe drought. The severe drought is in extreme north central Illinois.
