The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced all lanes of westbound US 50 will be closed at I-57 in Salem, weather permitting, from nine Thursday night until six Friday morning.
The closure is necessary to allow IDOT Day Labor to replace a damaged beam on the structure carrying I-57 northbound over US 50. All entrance and exit ramps will remain open during construction.
A marked detour will be in place utilizing I-57 northbound to Kinoka Road (Exit 127), then back to Salem on I-57 southbound.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, if feasible, the use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
