State Representative Blaine Wilhour has honored Warren Alden Baker of Clay County on his 100th birthday. Baker was presented a certificate by Wilhour thanking him for his service to our country and his contributions to our community.
Baker attended Flora High School where he played basketball and tailback on the football team before moving to St. Louis to work in a machine shop where they made bullets for World War II before he entered the war. Baker was wounded in action by rifle fire in Germany and was hospitalized for 20 months before being released. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal.
After the Army and healing from his injury, Baker worked in Silverton, Colorado before returning to Flora six months later to work at Brooks’ Garage in Flora. He and his wife of 74 years have traveled to all 50 states and spent a month in Europe and the Holy Lands. His current hobbies include cruising country roads, looking for deer, and gardening.
Baker has served as a member of the Louisville Town Board, Louisville School Board, and as a Louisville Fireman. He retired from Wabash Telephone Cooperative.
