A 33-year-old Kinmundy woman was arrested on multiple charges following an early Thursday evening traffic crash and two later altercations with Salem Police.
Vanessa Wooden of Freemont Street is being held in the Marion County Jail for aggravated driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, driving on a revoked license, no mandatory auto insurance, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
Salem Police say the series of events began when Wooden ran off South Broadway into a guard rail holding mailboxes in front of the Red Roof buildings just north of Lake Street. Wooden was initially reported as unconscious. Police says she was partially conscious upon their arrival and was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.
While there, Wooden alleged pulled out an IV tube and attempted to run out of the emergency room. She was quickly apprehended by police. In the process, Wooden allegedly struck one of the officers in the face. Later at the Marion County Jail she allegedly partially broke free from her handcuffs and attempted to escape again.
Wooden remained in custody Friday awaiting a decision on formal charges.
The crash was first reported at 5:41 Thursday evening. The Salem Fire Protection District and United Ambulance were also called to assist.
