Bond was set at $50,000 in Marion County Court Tuesday for a 26-year-old Centerville woman charged with a Class X offense of aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm and a second felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Alexis Keller is accused of shooting 46-year-old David Knox of South 15th in Mt. Vernon through the shoulder while they were traveling in a van along with a second passenger early Monday morning. The incident is believed to have occurred on North Elm Street after Keller had pulled to the side of the road. Knox then reportedly wrestled the gun away from Keller and she fled the vehicle. Knox then took the wheel and called 911 to report the incident. He was met by sheriff’s deputies and Central City Police near the Laundromat in Sandoval.
In the probable cause statement, State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth said Keller called 911 18 minutes later to report Knox had allegedly assaulted her friend who was the other passenger in the van. But her friend told police nothing improper had happened at the house party the group had just left after staying 30 to 40 minutes. Knox told police he knew Keller was upset, but didn’t know why.
Hudspeth asked for a $300,000 bond, but Judge Mark Stedelin cited Keller having virtually no criminal record, having three kids to provide for and rating very low on the scale for not showing up in court in setting the bond at $50,000. She was ordered to have no contact with the victim and have no weapons. It was indicated during the court hearing that Keller worked as an armed security guard in the Metro-East.
A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for August 23rd at 11 am.
