The State Department of Agriculture’s annual “Clean Sweep” program will include Marion, Clinton and Fayette Counties this year.
The agency’s Brad Beaver says Clean Sweep gives Illinois residents a chance to get rid of old agricultural pesticides and similar chemicals.
“The collection will be free of charge. The department will assume liability for the disposal of those products. So these individuals its a great opportunity to get rid of those old chemicals they didn’t know what to do with that maybe sitting in a garage or a shed.”
Beaver says farmers, retired farmers, nursery owners, private pesticide applicators, structural pest control, applicators and landowners who inherited unwanted agricultural pesticides with their property are all eligible.
Beaver says those interested need to pre-register by July 28th.
Clean Sweep sponsors in Marion County are the Farm Bureau and Soil & Water Conservation District. The sponsors in Clinton and Fayette Counties are also the Farm Bureau and Soil & Water Conservation Districts.
