Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say a 68-year-old Odin man was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash that apparently occurred last Sunday morning due to a health issue.
Reports indicate Randy Meredith had run off both sides of Selmaville Road and struck at least two mailboxes before his car went off in the ditch. He reportedly had kept his foot on the gas pedal causing smoke around the car. A passerby was eventually able to break out the window and turn off the vehicle before the sheriff’s department and Salem Fire Protection District arrived on the scene. Meredith was reportedly unresponsive when emergency help arrived. He was taken to Salem Township Hospital by United Medical Response.
Meanwhile, sheriff’s officials say a further investigation has determined a Salem woman who said she was a passenger in a rollover crash in the 1800 block of Green Street Road east of Central City early last Saturday morning was the driver. As a result, 25-year-old Lexi Barringer of West Kell in Salem has been ticketed for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and having expired registration. Barringer refused hospital treatment at the scene. Deputies say the investigation indicated there was no one else in the vehicle at the time of the crash. At the time of the crash, Barringer had indicated the driver had left the scene.
