What a fantastic day at the State Track and Field meet at O’Brien Stadium-Eastern Illinois University for our Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School distance runners Sarah McKowen and Rylee Brammeier. The both competed in Section 1 of the class 1A 3200 meter run.
Rylee Brammeier ran a time of 12:58.7, which was :32 faster than her time at state her freshman year. Sarah McKowen went out and ran her fastest 3200 meter run ever finishing in 11:59.7 shattering her own school record of 12:15.1 and placing 4th in her section and 15th place overall! She went out hard the first mile in 5:48 and held on for a strong finish.
Coach Tim Koch said, “I pushed both girls hard this track season. They did some workouts that were really tough! Today is a testament to their work ethic and determination to continue to get better! The results of their efforts showed up big time today! Both girls deserve to be proud of themselves! I know I am! This was a great ending to a remarkable season for both of these girls!”
Also in 1a action, Carlyle’s Lera Schmeink was 33rd in the long jump. Patoka/South Central’s Brooke Cowger was 17th in the discus in 31.55m. Teammate Kyla Engel was 12th in the 800m with a PR time of 2:23.43.
It was a record setting day for Olney’s Tatum David. The young lady won both the 1600 and 3200 meter state titles and in the 2-mile, she broke the IHSA state record in a time of 9:53.9. Tatum actually has a PR of 9:48 this season which is just 1 second off of Katelyn Tuohy’s national record. David is signed to run for the Virginia Cavaliers next year.
It was also a historic day for Columbia’s Abby Venhaus as she won the school’s first ever track state title with her triple jump win going 11.56 meters. Mount Vernon’s Kamaree Pollard was 5th going 11.04.
