The Centralia City Council has voted to take the ‘civility’ pledge.

Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder says the Illinois Municipal League is pushing the pledge.

“What that does is essentially hold us to ensure everything we do, comment on and try to do is for the city and it’s citizens.  Everyone know people make mistakes, we are humans but we will try our damndest that we will do everything in our possibility to uphold this civility pledge to ensure the city of Centralia will continue to move forward.”

With the city council’s unanimous blessing, members of the council, the City Manager, Clerk, and other department heads will be asked to sign the pledge.

The council has voted to move forward on resurfacing Country Club Road from Marilyn Avenue/South Lakewood to Meadow Lane at a cost of $66,315.  City Manager Kory Smith said the cost was the lowest of two bids but is higher than the engineer’s estimate and what is in the budget.  However, he fears delaying the work could result in even higher costs.

The council approved placing stop signs on Gary at Monroe and Mount at Monroe Street.

Councilman Rob Jackson was named Mayor Pro Tem.

Mayor Kuder appointed new city councilwoman Barri Allen to the Tourism and Pool Committees, Isreal ‘Izzy’ Fontanez to the Veterans Committee, and Jack Graham to the Fire and Police Pension Boards.
