More Illinois students will have access to health services at school thanks to additional federal money coming to the state.
Healthcare and Family Services Spokesperson Evan Fazio says the Illinois School-Based Health Services Program will be expanding to include all Medicaid-enrolled children.
“This can be anything from primary care and preventative services, from mental health services and health education and promotion. And the goal is to create a supportive environment that addresses student’s health care needs while promoting their overall well being and academic success.”
Previously, the care was only available to kids receiving Medicaid who were learning under an individual education plan or IEP. Fazio says federal backing will also help ease financial strain on schools.
